Mildred (Tinker) Schuman, Lac du Flambeau poet, beader, pipe-carrier, tribal elder.
The artist made this yoke adorned with 13 buffalo skulls inspired by her Sun dance experiences in South Dakota. Tinker Schuman participated in her first Sun dance after she received a vision to become a Sun dancer.
She later made this yoke as a reminder of the people suffering from addictions and women suffering from domestic abuse or trafficking. " I wear it for ceremonies and I think of all the prayers I put into my Sun dances. I pray from the coming generations, like generations before us prayed for me".
