Tenganan village, Bali - Geringsing (double ikat) Bali's rarest textiles
Rembat at work preparing the cotton : Rolling the flattened cotton on a wooden stick so it's ready for spinning. Rembat is about 95 years old and the only living man in Tenganan who still knows the whole double-ikat process. He learned weaving from his mother so he could make his own clothing after the Japanese invaded the island. After the invasion, everything was rare and expensive.
